In the autumn of 2010 ACA was contracted by a US Government Prime Contractor to provide project logistics services in support of building a power plant in Kandahar Afghanistan. 24 x Caterpillar 3516B Generator sets, which are 25ton generators that are permanently built into 40’ containers, and the supporting fuel tanks, switchgears, cable, and maintenance equipment were sourced from the USA and Europe for transportation to Afghanistan on short notice to meet the deadline. As a project logistics provider ACA arranged trucks to pick up the equipment in the 29 in the United States and 25 in Europe, the 11 chartered aircraft to move all the outsized pieces and most of the additional cargo including cranes and aircraft handling/loading equipment, airfreight to move the remaining 60 tons of in-gauge cargo over several scheduled flights, and 47 trucks in Afghanistan to deliver the equipment to the proposed power plant site. Chartered aircraft flew from New York JFK, Stewart Airfield in NY, Hannover Germany, Ostend Belgium, and Raleigh North Carolina to Kandahar Afghanistan. Aircraft types used were 8 Antonov 124s, 2 Boeing 747s, and 1 Lockheed L100-30 Hercules. ACA facilitated the landing permissions in Afghanistan and provided the client with up to date flight following information so they knew exactly where in the transportation process their equipment was. The project was completed on time and at the contracted amount.
